The Fives Downtown Hotel & Residences, Curio Collection by Hilton is fairly new to the neighborhood, but is already making it's mark! It's BEAUTIFUL contemporary rooms & rooftop infinity pool with views of the beach does not disappoint! We'll touch more on all of that good stuff in just a minute!

The 5's is located 35 miles (56 km) from Cancun's International Airport. About a 45 minute drive (depending on the traffic).
I checked into The 5's pretty late after a 4 hour bus ride from Bacalar. I was tired so I was keeping my fingers crossed that check-in was going to be a smooth process. Fortunately, it was! The 1st thing I noticed about this hotel was the staff! Everyone was EXTREMELY pleasant! As the front desk rep prepared the keys to my room, she also presented me with a tropical tasting welcome drink - which was so good (shout out to the bartender)! I took a good look around the hotel and quickly became AMAZED by the lobby. The live-wall vertical garden, the extended walkway and the small fire pits burning in the distance was definitely a vibe!

The Rooms
The 5's is a mix of guest rooms and suites with simplistic Mexican design details. Since I was traveling solo, I opted for the 'King Deluxe' guest room with a courtyard view! When I unlocked the door, the biggest smile came over my face! The room was EXACTLY what I needed! Spacious, clean, well decorated and sweet smelling! A definite plus with this room was not having to deal with carpet! There is hardwood flooring throughout the space. Super stylish! And that plush bed was just waiting for me to fall into it! LOL! Let me also add that the room is soundproof from all of the action that happens in & around the hotel!

After checking out the room a little bit, I threw my luggage to the side and made a crazy mad dash towards the shower! My day was LONG (3 hour boat tour + a 4 hour bus ride) and that rain shower became my best friend!! LOL! SERIOUSLY! Once I freshened up, it was time to EAT!

The Fives Downtown Restaurants
A definite plus to this hotel is the fact that they offer a variety of cool spots to eat at if you don't feel like leaving the hotel! Check out your options:
☀️ El Tigre – Enjoy over a hundred different kinds of tequila & mezcals at this spot! Did I forget to mention that it’s a great snack bar too? The rib-eye quesadilla & guacamole is TOO GOOD!
☀️ Fives Rooftop – This rooftop has everything from ‘Jazz & Wine Night’ events to pool parties! But if you want to keep it low-key, arriving to the pool in the morning for a great breakfast & a cocktail (c’mon you’re on vacation) is perfect! Catching the sunset is a great way to enjoy the views of the city and the beach too!
☀️ Marley Coffee Shop - Founded by Rohan Marley, this shop is a top spot for the highest, quality coffee in Playa Del Carmen. Located on the 1st floor, be sure to stop in to try a fresh cup!
☀️ Mercatto – Start your day here with a hearty breakfast or stop by for lunch or dinner in this Italian inspired restaurant!

☀️ If you’re taking the ADO bus from Cancun, Tulum, Bacalar, etc. there is a bus station within walking distance to The Fives Downtown.
☀️ Driving to the hotel? Keep in mind that there is a fee of $15 USD for valet parking per day.
☀️ This hotel is only a few blocks from the beach! Be sure to ask the locals (or the staff) about the best beaches in the area and how to access them!
☀️ The 5's Downtown also has a sister property in Puerto Morelos (The Fives Oceanfront Puerto Morelos). A representative of the hotel may approach you about a 2 hour timeshare presentation to visit the property in Puerto Morelos. If you decide to do this, you'll be gifted with transportation to/from the hotel, complimentary breakfast and vouchers to enjoy 'RoMarley Beach House' for the day (check out my blog here on relaxing beach club)!
☀️ Safety is a big issue among travelers visiting Mexico. I can only speak from my personal experience and as a solo-traveler staying at this property, I did not for one second feel unsafe. But be sure to always be aware of your surroundings!
This pool is just FABULOUS!
My stay at the 5's was a lot of F U N! I enjoyed the newness and the convenience of the hotel, but the best thing about it - it didn't break the bank! On your next visit to Playa Del Carmen, I would definitely add these digs to your list!
